It's here. The year you have been waiting for since you can remember; Senior year. You are now one of the "big dogs" and you're almost done. The only thing you can think about it in the morning when you wake up is how you're about to be out of that school and into to real world. But I am here to tell you to stop thinking that you're almost out, and to enjoy the time you still have left in. You may think you're ready, but you're going to regret how fast it all went by.
You probably find yourself saying you can't wait to get out of your small town and meet new people. I may be the first to say this, but I won't be the last person you hear this from; cherish the time you have with those people. You may think you're friends will always be there, and they will be. However they're going to be miles and miles away trying to figure college and life out just as much as you, and you're going to wish you went to that last hangout or spent more nights at home with your best friend binge watching Netflix. Don't get me wrong, you will make new friends and meet a ton of cool people. But its not going to be the same as being with the people you went to school with for twelve years and eating lunch in your favorite teachers room.
Right now, you probably have a part time job that you go to after school and maybe on the weekends. Its enough to get what you need and have fun. ENJOY THIS WHILE YOU CAN. Having a job and going to college will hit you like a freight train. Think you're going to college parties and having no homework? Think again. You will write more papers than you can count on your fingers and toes, and your boss will get ahold of your schedule and make sure you spend every minute you can at work. Lets not forget how expensive college is, so those long hour work days are necessary.
I know you also always say you can't wait to move out of your house and become leash free from your "annoying and controlling" parents. Your mom will text you every hour asking where you are and what you're doing. And then after telling her to "chill out" because your "grown" now, she will respect it and lay off. But I promise you, you will miss her annoying texts every day. You will find yourself calling and bugging her like she did you. You're going to miss her home cooked meals and advice she was always good at giving. Lets face it, no one will ever know you like mom does, and she's not always going to be there when you need to talk. Cherish every moment with her while you can.
Maybe you read this and thought the whole time that none of this is true or it doesn't apply to you. I get it, we all have heard this as seniors before and thought the same thing. But once you graduate and go off to college, you will understand and you will regret wishing for it to go by so fast like the rest of us did. Live to the fullest everyday and cherish the memories you make. Go to football games, get crazy at pep rallies, and tell your mom her meatloaf is good even when its dry. Most importantly, make crazy memories and do things you would never do. Make senior year the best and most unforgettable year yet. You can always go to college, but you're only a senior in high school once.
