Dear Eliza Hamiltion,
Never in my life have I been so inspired by the strength of a woman as I was by you. As a young woman, your influence is now a much needed light in my life. Your story is the story unspoken and is therefore underrated. While your husband changed the world, you changed his life. Your sister also was an aid to you and as she helped change her life, you also helped her. Angelica was the outspoken one who knew what she wanted, and you were the fly against the wall. As her perfect foil, you were a power team. The same is true as your husband. He could not have survived without you. You motivated Alexander to not only be the best leader of our new country but the best father to your family.
I have to confess that I never understood how a person could take their spouse back after that spouse cheated on them. Cheating has always been something that seems to lead to divorce and broken families. I just assumed that the confusion, disappointment, betrayal, regret, and hurt would overcome the feelings of love, trust, and comfort they once found in a spouse. But after hearing your story, my heart changed. I understood that you made sacrifices for your family and you decided that instead of a divorce, you would be somber yet strong. What I admire most is your courage in the face of adversity. Instead of speaking out against your husband, you were silent and secure in yourself. You were helplessly in love with your husband. You were optimistic even when there seemed to be no hope left in a person or a cause. Before the affair, you were a single mother. You raised your children to be humble. You forced Alexander to remember where he came from and be proud how far he's come.
Thank you for being an example, a woman against the norm. Even after your husband died, you devoted your life to continuing his legacy. Your orphanage not only paid homage to him, but helped hundreds of children who would have never had a chance without you. In present day, millions of children have hope because of your orphanage. Your story should and will be told.
Before "Hamilton," I had never heard your story. Phillipa Soo helps you come alive every night in your home state of New York. She is just like you; she has blossomed into a star. Your story touches the hearts of woman and people from around the world. You cannot be described as just beautiful; you are radiant. Thank you for making us stop and "look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now."
