We all have friends that we can share with, complain to, and joke with, but what about those friends that can't talk but are always there for you when you need them? The ones with big snouts and long, floppy ears. Those are the kind of friends I'm talking about, the dogs.
Dear canine companions,
Thank you for being the best friends I never thought I'd have. The ones that care for me even more than you do for yourselves. The ones that I know I can trust with my very essence. With you two by my side I've been able to tackle the world, and then some. If only we could truly talk, to know how truly grateful I am to have you both in my life, I'd tell you all about how you make me feel when I've had a completely terrible day, but yet you somehow manage to always pry a smile from my lips, or how even when I may not always be in the best mood, you still run up to me with your tennis balls and ropes to play. I really do appreciate the joy you bring me, the loyalty you have towards me, and the love you have for me.
To me, you both will always be family, no matter how many times you may poop outside of your puppy pads, or how many times you may accidentally nip at my fingertips as you excitedly grab at a treat in my hand. Even as we wrestle around with your toys while you gnaw at my arm, never once have I thought about what it'd be like to live without you (and the scars you may sometimes leave me with!). Although you two can both be a bit annoying in your own ways, I will never stop caring for you.
I'd much rather put myself in harm's way than say goodbye to either of you, and I know the same goes for you two. Even when you may only be slightly larger than the average boot, you still act really tough with your loud barking and biting in the face of strangers. Not only do I find it adorable, but I also love how fearless you can be when trying to protect what you love, whether it be me, my family, or just the house you live in.
My dear friends, you both will always have a place in my heart, no matter how many obstacles are put between us, or how much time we spend apart. I hope that even if we may not be able to fully understand one another, that you at least know that I will always love you.
Sincerely,
Your human
