An Open Letter To My Boss
Dedicated to Brettany LaShomb
I would imagine when the person reading this first saw the title, they assumed this would be a letter full of hate. Usually, the word “boss” is defined negatively. I am thankful that this isn’t the case for me. So, this is an open letter to my boss, someone who I can call a friend and a role model.
Brett,
There are really no words that express how eternally grateful I am that God or whoever up above brought you into my life. One of the greatest gifts someone can receive in life is a person who is supportive of them unconditionally, celebrates their victories, treats them with such grace and humbleness… Which is all of the characteristics that you inhibit. Not only are you my boss, but you are also one of my biggest supporters and cheerleaders. You are here in my life as a constant reminder that I am above every struggle I go through and worthy to live a great life.
Being a dance instructor under your belt is quite the blessing. I have learned so many things while working for you that I have utilized and will treasure forever. Some of the most influential words I have ever heard have come from you. The life lessons you teach are in the hearts of so many of your dancers and your teachers, too.
Throughout my whole time at the studio, but especially the last year or so, you have been an extremely influential part of my life. You have been one of my guiding lights through all of my hardships, troubles, worries, and doubts. One of the most important things I want you to know is the day you said “I don’t want you to ever feel like you have to go through this alone,” constantly plays over in my head. To have someone that cares so deeply about my well-being is a precious gift that I will forever cherish. It is a great feeling to know I have you, someone whose advice and words of wisdom come from deep down in your heart and nothing less.
You are a woman of so many god-giving facets. An all around kind, motivated, insightful, modest and considerate human being… Something this world needs a lot more of. You inspire me to see the light at the end of the tunnel and to “fake it till I make it.” You have shown me what can happen when you put your whole heart into something. You have inspired me to stay focused and driven, to pull out the positive aspects of everything, and you have inspired me to inspire.
So, thank you. Thank you for every selfless act of kindness, every “How are you doing today?", every invite to talk, every gift, every encouraging word, and everything you have done and will do for me in the future. There are so many people you are surrounded by that feel all of the things I feel about you and hope you remember that if your days ever turn dark.
Much love,
Katie
