Dear Not-So-Little Sister,
I wondered from the day I first met you if this day would come, a day that I knew you weren't little anymore. I always imagine you crawling around on the floor and getting into my stuff. Now, you are so grown up, and it seems like those days are long gone. From the moment they put you in my arms, I knew we would share something special, and I would always have to look out for you and you for me. Growing up, you were one of the most annoying people in my life. Sorry, I had to say it! You always got into my stuff, and you cried over every little thing. Looks like nothing has changed...just kidding!
I just want you to know that when I look at you, I see a younger and better version of myself. You clearly have adopted my wonderful fashion sense or you wouldn't be constantly stealing all my clothes. We listen to the same music and practically like the same stuff, so you are pretty awesome. Honestly, sometimes I worry about you more than I should. Growing up, I struggled with finding myself and figuring out who I wanted to be. I hope you never have to struggle as I did, no matter how much I want you to be like me.
When we were younger, I always wondered when I was going to experience the sibling type of love that everyone rants and raves about all of the time. Well, I can finally say that I understand what they are talking about, now. At one of your softball games this year, when you went up to bat, I remember praying so hard for you to just hit it out of the park. I know of all of the hours you practice and I've seen what you can do with that bat, so I know you can hit a home run any day of the week. I wanted nothing more than for you to crank it out of the park! I would get so nervous for you when the ball would come your way. I remember leaning over to mom and telling her how nervous I was for you, and I asked her, "Is this how it feels to have kids?" Constantly worrying and just wanting them to do awesome at everything that they do. She said yes, and at that moment, I knew that the love and commitment we have for each other will always be there, no matter what.
Long story short, I just want you to know that no matter where life takes us, I will always be here for you. I may be getting married and eventually moving out ,but I will always be a phone call or text away. Although it may seem crazy, I at one point was your age and might even know what you are going through. I never want you to think that I don't have time for you or that you aren't important enough, because to me you are everything. I will drop whatever I am doing, if you ever need me and I never want you to forget that. I love you baby sister, and I always will. To me, you will always be that grouchy newborn that they handed to me that day. You will always be my sister and best friend.
Love,
Your Big Sister
