Everyone has had to deal with the dreaded question, "What are you going to do after college?"
Maybe you don't have an answer. That's OK.
You may not know what you want to do with your life yet. Don't get discouraged because all of your friends know for sure that they're going to be nurses, teachers, etc. Just because they've figured it out earlier than you have doesn't mean that you're a failure.
Maybe you can't decide because you're interested in multiple careers. That's okay.
Having a lot of interests just means you're a well-rounded person. It's hard to know what you want to do when you're in your 20's. There are so many other choices in your life that are potentially crucial at the time (such as what outfit to wear or what flavor ice cream you want today).
Maybe you're on your third (or twentieth) change in majors since your freshman year. That's okay.
Changing your mind is fine. It may not be ideal, but it isn't the worst. You're still in college and you're still trying. Exploring your options isn't something to be ashamed of. Hardly anyone enters college at 17 knowing what they're going to do and sticking with that major (and if you are one of those people, I personally applaud you).
Maybe you have to take a fifth year to decide. That's okay.
Look at it this way: you have the whole rest of your life to decide what exactly you're going to do. If you have to take that extra year to figure it out, don't stress. Feel comforted in knowing that one day you will have everything figured out.
We live in a society today where everyone just seems to know what they're majoring in and what job they want to pursue exactly. I'm here to tell you that you are not alone in being undecided. It's better to put this much thought and worry into your career path now so that you're sure instead of realizing it during a mid-life crisis mental breakdown. So keep doing you: research possible career paths, take a bubble bath to de-stress, try hard in all of your classes and follow your dreams. Whatever it is that you decide to do, do what you think will make you the happiest.
