Hello,
If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering what the future holds for yourself, let alone the country. In the wake of the announcement of President-Elect Trump, fear and disdain have run rampant within our homes and communities. And how could it not? The future is a scary thing, primarily because it is something we have little to no control over. However, there is something that can reestablish your trust in the future and it’s something you’ve had for the majority of your life; self-education.
Now I know, you’ve probably had it shoved down your throat about doing your research when it comes to making decisions. But, that’s not what I’m advising here. I’m telling you, it’s time to step up and pursue something that’s been in the back of your mind…something that’s been calling you to action, or to pursue.
If you ask me, this election cycle has really lit a fire under the bellies of many in this country, regardless of what side they stood on. So, why not take advantage of the flames in your tummy, and turn it into something constructive? In my case, a PhD in Medical Ethics is my goal, because I enjoy taking on the taboo topics, and having debates that stretch a person’s assumption and prejudices. Everyone is affected by the medical space, and it’s a topic that is constantly evolving as time passes. It’s fresh, it’s challenging, and it helps me to contribute to the future…wherever it may go.
You see, knowledge and self-education have the ability to develop your mind and push you to be the greatest version of yourself (unless you were Dr. Frankenstein, but that’s neither here nor there). By researching and pursuing a higher education in some way, shape or form, you allow for your mind to grow, thus allowing you to have confidence in yourself, and your abilities to thrive in the future. Pursuing topics you love turns you into a productive and contributing member of society, and in hard times, there is nothing greater than being able to contribute to the greater good.
Now also keep in mind, that knowledge can also be a burden. Each and every one of us is called to seek the truth, and sometimes the truth is not pretty. The truth could care less how you feel, but it is concerned with being known. If you choose to educate yourself in a topic that you think you know everything about…you’re in for a rude awakening. Your stances will be challenged, your friendships tested, and yeah...you may grow to hate the topic itself. But you know what? That’s okay! The beauty of knowledge will always triumph over the darkness you find.
So, dear reader, are you ready to take up this challenge? If you’re already doing so, don’t let any one or anything stop you. If you’re not, it’s time to step up and take control over your mind. For once you realize how much you have to contribute and give to the world, you’ll see there is never really anything to fear, but fear itself.
Sincerely,
A Knowledge Seeker
