Love. Equally beautiful and equally terrifying.
That moment when you finally fall for someone is pure bliss. You see nothing but that other person in the most fascinating light. You begin to love every single one of their imperfections. Like the freckles on his neck or how his hands are always cold. The way his face is never perfectly shaved. Or no matter how many times you urge him to get a new hairstyle he always comes back with the same crew cut. Even the most non-believer in love will suddenly have an epiphany when they meet the right person. That right person can even make you into a better version of yourself. Suddenly you are feeling extra confident and like you’re on top of the world. You feel motivated. All that lovey-dovey stuff that you’ve seen in movies is finally your reality. Imagine you just had a great day together and you kiss your lover goodbye before he drives home.
You know he lives about 20 minutes away and he always calls to let you know he got home safe. 40 minutes goes by and your heart begins to speed up. He hasn’t called yet. You cannot help but to jump to the worse case scenario. Car crash? Drunk driver? You begin pacing back and fourth thinking about what if something really did happen to that person. It is really late and you should be sleeping but how can you sleep not knowing if he’s safe or not? Your heart beats faster. You never thought you could care about someone so much but you know you couldn’t handle it if something were to happen to him. He finally texts you that he’s home safe and just stopped to get gas. Your heart slows down and you breathe a sight of relief.
Love requires a whole new responsibility. You care so much for that other person that you put your heart in their hands. They can walk away at any given time leaving you with a broken heart. Something bad can happen to him that makes your guts twist just thinking about. When you love someone they become a part of you. You have different responsibilities than others do who are single.
You worry about their health, their future, their happiness, their feelings. Sometimes it is a lot to handle. Putting someone else before yourself is hard. So is it worth it? Y.E.S. It is absolutely, 1,000 percent worth it because you know they would do the same for you. Love is one emotion that is completely magical so take it seriously.
If you’re lucky enough to experience real love… treasure it. It’s the best and worst thing that is ever going to happen to you.
