Everyone has their hopes, dreams, and desires, and nobody should try and shatter them. They are what keep a person alive, engaged, and hungry for success. For all those that doubt you, don’t give them the satisfaction of your failure, rather rise above them and show them just how amazing your dreams are.
To the person who doubted me:
Thank you. Your doubt and lack of belief in me has fueled me to be better. You telling me that I cannot do something because I am not smart enough to succeed has just made me want to prove you wrong more and more each time you have said it. Your doubt in my ability to do what I dream of has made that dream become more of a reality. You have pushed me to do the best of my ability just solely because you have no faith in me. I have never worked so hard for something in my life. Things came easy for me, whether it was school or sports, and college was not like that.
At first I would not have ever thought to thank you. Your conversations to me about taking the easy route and change my major because “I simply could not handle my major” made me hate you and give up. At some points during my time at college, I began to believe everything that you were telling me. I questioned my ability to succeed in and out of the classroom, and I doubted my dream of becoming a nurse being a possibility. You tore me down more than once, and talked to me as if I could not understand the simple things you were saying, and that bothered me more than you know. I don’t hate you for this rather, I thank you for it.
Without your doubt, I would not have the fire and burning desire to prove you wrong. I would not kill myself day in and day out to do my best not only on every piece of homework I do and turn in, but also my workouts for athletics. Mind you, I am not saying I wouldn’t work hard regardless, but I just work that much harder because you think I do not have what it takes.
You changed me. You helped me realize that the only person that is stopping me is me, not anybody else. You made me realize I am worth so much more than what I let myself believe, and that there are people that will tear you down, but their opinion is their opinion and not the truth. Without you I would not be successful not only in college, but the real world as well. You taught me how not to treat people and to give people the benefit of doubt. So, I thank you for teaching me things about myself that I never would have realized, pushing myself to my very potential, and making me strive to follow my dreams.
