Dear girls with dreams bigger than anyone could imagine,

I am the girl who has always been a little backward and quiet, the girl who made all the good grades in high school and am continuing to do so in college, but more importantly I have always been the girl with dreams bigger than myself. Forever because of the pressure I felt around me, no, not from my parents, I thought that the medical field was where I had to go when I graduated from college instead of following my dreams to become an attorney. That is only one example of a dream I didn't begin to follow until almost too late. Other examples of this range from not joining clubs that I wanted to be a part of because I didn't want to do it alone to not going to an event because I would have to go alone.

So let me let you in on a little secret: No dream is too big or too small even if you have to start it alone. Go for whatever you want to do. If you begin to do it others will follow or you will find someone who is dreaming of the same kinds of things in life. During my first year in college I have learned that in order to make most dreams come true you need to step out of your comfort zone in order to achieve them. So take those super hard few steps so that you are able to take the bigger steps much easier.

Never be afraid to live or tell people about your dreams. If you feel like telling someone about your dreams is going to go wrong or it will be hard then you are right, but once it is out in the open it will make it all the better and you will have people to support you throughout your journey to make those dreams come true. I know you are probably thinking, "well, what if people put my dreams down or say I can never achieve them?" Well, then that should give you all the more reason to achieve them to prove them wrong. Life is a journey, but if you are living it to the fullest and fulfilling all your dreams along the way then it will make it all the easier.

Don't ever give up on yourself. Please promise me that you will never do that because that is literally the worst thing you can do. If you are not willing to be your own biggest supporter than who else do you expect to support you if you will not even believe in yourself? Just remember that anything you set your mind to can happen if you just believe in yourself and make it happen. You can't do anything until you set your mind to what you will achieve, not just what you want to achieve.

Lastly, please just follow your dreams. Yes, they may be big, yes they may be scary, but as long as you set your mind to it and believe it will happen for you. Whether you are dreaming of joining a club, attending an event, dreaming of a career, or just dreaming of the person you are wanting to be, you can do it!

Best of luck,

A girl who dreams as big as you do

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
