Dear Best Friend,
I would like to begin this open letter by thanking you for everything you have done for me over the years. Really, I cannot thank you enough for welcoming me into your home, making me part of your family, and becoming a part of mine. Every time I can think of that something great in my life happened, you were the one I wanted to call and tell. In every victory and every defeat, you were there to support me. When I, the most non-athletic person you know, wanted to do track, you were there telling me I could. There was still the laughter when I would fall or before I could get my legs to move the correct way, but always support.
Even though it may seem odd that we are so different and so close, the differences are one of the qualities of our friendship that I cherish most. I am glad that we can introduce each other to different things. Together we discover so many different things that we would otherwise never know about.
I really do not know what I did to deserve a friend like you, who not only supports me in my goals but also helps to lead me in my walk with Christ. My wish is that every person who comes into contact with you sees what I see. Regardless of the time between when we talk or see each other, I never feel unwelcome around you.
I also want to apologize for all of the times when I was angry for no reason or was not as good of a friend as you were. I am so sorry that you end up helping me far more than I help you. I am sorry that you are always bringing me to church or bible study and I never hold you accountable in the same way. Most of all I am sorry that you have had to deal with all of my confusion about life. As I tend to search for meaning and purpose you are much better at leaving things in God’s hands. I’m sorry that you have to tag along on my misadventures when you already warned me of the outcome.
Lastly, I want to leave you with a comment: no matter how far apart we may be, or how different we are, please know I’m always here. If you need to make a desperate phone call at 3 a.m. because you need a friend, please let me be that friend. If you need someone to come see you in the middle of the night when life is getting the best of you, let me be that friend. For every trial and for every defining moment of your life I want to be your supporter just as you are mine. Also, please let me give a speech at your wedding; I have some great ideas, so it will probably be awesome.
With love,
Your future bridesmaid
