An Open Letter To The Strongest Woman I Know

Almost everyone believes that their mom is the best. They believe that they’re the luckiest kids in the world and simply couldn’t have anyone better. Although they believe that they’re right, I know they’re wrong. Because anyone who doesn’t have you as a mother definitely isn’t as lucky as I am.

You have been a source of support and comfort since the moment I was born. I have always felt I could confide in you, and I still do to this day. Though I may not always want to share my feelings, it’s a great relief to know that I have someone I can talk to. Not only that, but I know you’ll listen. Of course you’ll guide me, but you won’t pass unjust judgments. You’ve always taught me to tell the difference between right and wrong. However, because of you I also know it’s okay to make mistakes as long as I learn from them and become stronger because of it. You let me explore the world, but still kept me grounded. Even though I didn’t believe it back then, I now know that you were just the perfect balance of strict and flexible.

You are by far one of the strongest people I know. From your confidence to your professionalism, you put most men to shame with your strength. Though your life may not have gone along the path completely as maybe expected, you still continue to set bigger goals, creating a name for yourself with every step. I could never be more proud of your accomplishments, and you continue to inspire me every day with your intense drive. I want to better myself because of this. After my accomplishments, little or big, you are always one of the first people I want to share it with. I aspire to make you proud daily.

Everyone as their flaws, but you don’t let yours define you, turning them in to assets. When we clash and disagree, remember that I got my attitude and stubbornness from you. But I believe that I got my passion and love from you as well. I pride myself in telling people how hard working my parents are; how hard working you are. I have the privilege of having great role models to look up to, you being one of the most prominent ones. In all honestly Mom, you are an all around inspiration and beacon of light for me.

We may have our arguments and may not always see eye to eye on everything, but I wouldn’t replace you for the world. I know how much you care about me, and although I may not verbally express it, you have to know that I care for you just the same. Even though I may not always want to try on dresses for you or take selfies with you, it doesn’t mean that I don’t care. I love you, Mom.

Thank you for everything you do for me. The things written in this letter can never truly express just how much you mean to me. But at the end of the day, I really do feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have you as a mother.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
