An Open Letter To Some Of My Many Inspiring Teachers
Sarah Stone

Almost everyone has that one teacher they absolutely loved. I have to say that I have many teachers that I absolutely loved going through school, these teachers have also inspired me throughout my education. So I have a few things I would like to say to a bunch of my teachers.

Let me start with my freshman year gym teacher. Although I was not a great student in gym because I’m not that athletic, my gym teacher never gave up on me and always inspired me to do the best I could. And I see him doing this to all of his students and all of his athletes that he coached. So, I want to thank you, Mr. Hoff, for being a dedicated teacher to all of your students and always inspiring us to do the best that we can.

I think next I will address my sophomore year history teacher, who was also my senior year Holocaust and human behavior teacher. Every day in his classes was an adventure in a way, whether we were diving into another history topic or another topic dealing with human behavior, I always had fun in these classes. He taught us that you can always find fun in learning and that you can also always find humor in your mistakes. So to you, Mr. Richards, I also say thank you, for being an unique teacher that strives to makes the lives of his student enjoyable.

Going with sophomore year, I guess I would have to mention my chemistry teacher. She was such a fun loving teacher that made every class fun and explosive, figuratively of course. OK, maybe a couple small explosions here and there, but nothing major. You could definitely tell that she loved her job and she loved the subject she taught. I will also commend her on inspiring her students to love the subject she taught as much as she did. I certainly feel in love with chemistry after taking her course and have really enjoyed studying chemistry further in college. So to you, Mrs. Froemming, I will say thank you for being a fun teacher and thank you for always allowing me to be involved in your experiments and demonstrations. I couldn’t have asked for a better high school chemistry teacher, your father was a good second when we got to learn from him as well, though.

The next teacher I want to talk about is actually a teacher I never had but still learned a lot from. I’ve learned that I love helping people from him and I’ve learned that I can be a good leader from him as well. Every time I went to a Link Crew training session or Link Crew after school activity, his great personality has come out. He is such a happy teacher and from what I can tell enjoys helping students to become leaders that he knows they can be. His sense of humor is also a great personality trait and you can learn a lot from him by just watching the way he communicates to his students and others in general. So, Mr. Lareau, thank you for your great personality that has taught me to be a better person than I was the day before and thank you for all the advice you gave us in Link training.

I also can’t leave my seventh grade and junior year math teacher. His way of teaching made me fall in love with math more than I already had. I always loved going to my math classes when I had him as a teacher and I always loved learning from him because it came so easy to me. I know most people hate math, but not me; I absolutely love it and I have my teacher to thank for that. I have also learned from him that it's OK to joke around with people once in a while because it build character and it's all in fun. Mr. Giera-- thank you, I have you to thank for my love of math to this day and I always enjoyed your classes.

Sort of going off of the math idea, I have to thank one of my elementary school teachers. I can’t remember why I was pulled out of class for this special subject but what I can remember is all of the logic problems and puzzles we did. I always loved getting out of my normal class to go with this teacher to do these logic problems. What I can see now that I have grown up is that this class taught me to think logically and critically about things in life and I have this teacher to thank for that. Thank you, Mrs. Drummer, for your teaching and I can say that I have learned a lot from you, whether I realized it at the time or not.

And last but not least, I have to talk about my junior and senior year English teacher. I have learned many things from her and have loved every one of her classes. One of the favorite things that she has done for me is to introduce me to some of my favorite novels. I cannot tell you how much I loved reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and "Catcher in the Rye" in her classes. To be honest, I wasn't sure I was even going to like these books but they have become some of my favorite books and I have actually added them to my own book collection. I also want to mention that she has such a great relationship with each one of her students and the fact that she can pick on us in loving ways shows how great those relationships can be. Thank you Bisko for being the fun loving teacher you are and for always caring about us in our education, I won't forget the classes I have had with you.

Although this list may be rather long for inspiring and caring teachers, I can tell you that I have had plenty more that are just like these ones. I would probably have to write a book in order to give each and every one of them the credit that they are due. I want to thank all of these teachers again for inspiring me in different ways and pushing me to be a great student and leader. Thank You.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
