An Open Letter To The Sibling I'm Leaving Behind For College

Dear (not so) Little Bro,

Guess who's gonna have to wash the dishes now!! HA!!!!!
I am so excited to see you continue to grow and mature as a young man in your high school years. Nevertheless, it's still a bittersweet feeling to know that we won't be bothering I MEAN AROUND EACH OTHER anymore. Growing up together and being each other's low-key best friend has made it harder and harder for me to swallow the fact that you won't be as close by my side as I'd like to be.
As a new chapter of our lives comes closer and closer each day, I just wanted to say that

I'm going to miss you. I will miss our Free-Breakfast Chick-Fil-A runs in the morning and our Les Miserables jam sessions in the mini-van. I will miss yelling at you to hurry up in the morning and you giving me a fist bump every time we passed each other in the hallway. Those memories with you made my day so much brighter. Nonetheless, I am so excited for you to continue high school by yourself as a young man.

Please take the dog out. Teddy is getting a little old and crusty so don't forget to love and nurture that old pupper! I know you'll get busy but you're the only one he has to goof around with, so don't take those moments for granted! (OR ELSE you know I won't hesitate to dognap him and take him with me to college.

School IS HARD, and don't let anyone discredit you for feeling that way. Bro, I've been there and YES, junior year did kick my butt too. And so did the people who said: "high school was easy". At the moment, it will get challenging. But you're capable of such great things. Sometimes, recognizing our weaknesses can be our greatest strength. It is in humbling ourselves that we learn where our capabilities lie.

You will argue with Mama and Papa about the stupidest things, but don't say anything you will regret. YOU WERE THERE when I would bicker with them about petty things and I REGRET wasting my time doing that. I wasted time arguing and cultivating a negative relationship them when I could have spent my time loving them. AHHH!! Just don't do that. I made mistakes so you wouldn't have to bud. I get it, you may not see eye to eye on everything, but learn to communicate properly and efficiently to avoid unnecessary conflict!

Tell the folks that you love them every opportunity you get. Every time you go out. Or when they go to work. And any opportunity you are blessed with. I regret choosing to ignore the importance of a simple act of kindness and just assuming that "my actions would speak louder than my words". No, say it too. They are your number one supporters since day one so just make it a priority to make it known to them how much you love and care them.

Friends come and go, family will always be there for you. Please never get to that point that you're too cool to FaceTime or text your big sis.

You will ALWAYS be my best friend baby bro. You'll always be my not-so-little brother and I am so blessed that God chose me to be your sister. Not growing up in the same roof anymore is going to be weird but you'll always be in my prayers. You are kind. You are phenomenal. You are a man. You are a child of God. You are so loved. You are my brother, always.

Love, Your Big Sis <3

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
