An Open Letter To Pretty Place

I couldn't begin to describe your beauty with words.

An Open Letter To Pretty Place
Jessica Wertz

I don't think I've ever loved a place as much as I love you, Pretty Place. There are some things I would like to thank you for.

1. You're a safe zone, honestly. You're where I run to when things seem to be going south when I really just need to gather my thoughts. You're drama-free. There's nothing but you and the open, mountain air.

2. My faith feels completely renewed every time I set foot inside your chapel. Between the big cross, the mountain view and Psalms 121 written above you, you can't help but feel rejuvenated and full of joy. When the world seems to be getting the best of us, it doesn't exist there. You're an escape. You can make people feel so full of life.

3. Some of the best conversations have happened on the ride up the mountain to you. Between crazy jam sessions or serious talks about life, my friends and I cherish those car rides to and from the top of the mountain. We yell about someone speeding too much around those mountain curves or argue about who gets the aux chord but never once have I complained about the long ride to you.

4.Even on your cloudy, gloomy days, you're still gorgeous. We drove to you one day and it had rained one the drive there. I was disappointed. But we got there and the clouds above the mountains were still breath-taking. I wouldn't take that day back for anything. The mixed shades of dark blue and grey over the mountain tops, the clouds being lower than we were. It felt like we were flying by the way we were sitting above the clouds.

5. Your sunrise. Your sunrise is what gets people out of bed at 4 in the morning, or earlier, by choice. Your sunrise is what makes people drive hours before the sun is up. Your sunrise is beautiful. Your sunrise can put people in awe. There aren't even words for the beauty that God shows through you at that early time of the day.

6. You've made for some of the best pictures. Even with just my iPhone camera, the pictures I've taken there will something that will be cherished forever. It's hard to get a bad picture. It's hard to pick one for my homescreen back round. It doesn't matter how many times I've been there, I still take an insane amount of pictures each time, trying to capture the beauty of Pretty Place within a still-shot, even though I know that's not possible.

You're my favorite getaway, Pretty Place. You're my favorite trip to make with my friends. You're the calm in the storm when I need to get away. You're the hidden beauty that gets lost in this massive world of chaos. So many people love you. Thank you for being amazing.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
