When I was young, I couldn’t grasp the idea of what genuine love and kindness was, or what it could be. Being young, all that mattered to me was getting chocolate and playing with my favorite dolls. I didn’t see that someone was always looking out for my best interests... looking out for me no matter what the circumstances were. That person was you, still is you, and I hope always is you.

I don’t know how you could do it.

Through the awful tantrums, the talking back, the long nights of crying and having nightmares, you were always there to look after me.

I look back at how my life has been, how I’ve acted, and how selfish I’ve been. I am not sure why anyone would stick by my side through it all, but somehow you did that for me. You supported me through every decision, and you loved me through my failures. Even now, though we live miles upon miles away, you are always there for support, wisdom, and love.

Is it weird to call you my best friend? Maybe to some people. You’re my best friend because you listen to my problems and you never judge me. You are always available for me and I am so thankful for that. I would take hanging out with you over everybody else, any day.

I thank you for the opportunities you have given me, I thank you for taking me on extraordinary trips we’ve been on, and I thank you for every memory we have together. It’s never a wasted minute with you.

The most important aspect about you is that you have never given up on me, even when I gave you every right to do so. While it felt like the world was against me, you were right by my side, helping me fight that battle. While I was sick you checked in to make sure I was okay. When I gave up on myself, you showed me why I needed to move on with my life. You gave me hope and strength to conquer every day I am alive.

Without your guidance throughout my life, I am not sure where I would be at this moment. You have impacted my life more than I have ever given you credit for, and I want to say I am sorry for ever taking you for granted. You are the biggest blessing, and I can’t be more thankful.

You have showed me how to love genuinely and how to be kind. Most of my life lessons have come from you, and I owe my wisdom to everything you have ever said to me. Thank you for always being there for me and never giving up on me. You have been the best person in my life, and I will forever be thankful for you.

It is a privilege to have you in my life. Thank you.
