An Open Letter To People Who Drink And Drive
Bitter Empire

Dear drunk drivers,

I speak for the rest of the community when I address your actions. We all seem to think we are invincible; I'm sure you hear that often. And though we sometimes experience heartache, we don't always realize the ramifications that our actions may bring. When you drink and drive, you are being selfish. And for the respect of the rest of the people out there on the road, I'm going to ask you not to. Because although you might think you'll be OK, we get a say in this too, since you're putting our lives at risk in addition to your own. You are risking our lives and the lives of our loved ones, which we do not approve of. I know that you would like to think that nothing bad will ever happen to you. Though that may or may not be true, you should never put yourself in that position.

Think of the child who might be left an orphan because his parents were killed or the newlywed wife that will never get to see her husband again all because you thought that you were "OK" to drive. When you drink and drive, you are impaired and have the potential to take away so much from yourself and from others. Is that a price you're willing to pay?

It doesn't matter where you are or what you are doing; if you or someone you know is intoxicated, it is never, ever worth it to get behind the wheel. We don't care if you miss your party or can't get home that night, because though it may seem important at the time, the anger will subside the next day, but the loss of a life is a pain that won't leave our minds quite so easily.

I have heard people call themselves a "good drunk driver" and the words make me cringe. A good drunk driver. I would call them stupid, and lucky, but not a good drunk driver. Anyone who is dim enough to drive intoxicated is likely not good at much, especially driving. The bottom line is that you should not know if you are a good drunk driver, and you should never put yourself in a situation to find out if you are one.

I don't care who you are or what your excuse is, if I see you drinking and driving, I will not let you get away with it, and I hope and pray that others wouldn't let you get away with it either. And though you still may feel invincible, I urge you not to test it. I urge you all to get an Uber or a taxi or wait to sober up. Save a life instead of risking one. Let the young child have his parents and the newlyweds see each other again. I hope you think of this the next time you are put in a position that questions your values and remember that a life is priceless, and that there will always be another party.

Don't let your blurry night turn into your biggest regret.

Sincerely,

The people you might hurt

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
