Dear New York voters,
Let me start off by saying that I am that poor soul who will not be able to vote this week because I am registered as an independent (cue "cop out" comments here). Gotta love closed primaries, but I will save that for later.
This week is the big week. On Tuesday, April 19th, the polls will open in New York and voters will get to decide who they want as the nominee for for the presidential election. It has been a very busy time in New York, with most of the candidates all over the state trying to win over voters. This turbulent election season is finally making its way to shake up New York.
Many people are probably confused about who to vote for. There are five candidates who will do anything to get the people. The onslaught of information on each of the candidates has made the process a little stressful. We have been seeing all of the reports on the election and it's now our great state's time to make a pivotal decision in this race.
I could tell you so many things about how to vote but my one piece of advice for you is this: Make sure whoever you vote for is the person you feel would be the best fit for the presidency. Don't vote on somebody because of all of the hype that they are receiving in the media. Don't vote for somebody because you are told to vote for them. Take a moment to look over the candidates' platforms so you can make an informed decision.
Also, if you can't vote in this primary, tell people about it! Let people know how much closed primaries suck and hurts the democratic process in the long run. People should not be denied the right to vote just because they choose to not identify with a specific party; these people should still have the right to choose who they want as the nominee.
This Tuesday will be an interesting day in the state of New York. We will finally get a chance to see who the state feels should be the next President of the United States. So if you can vote, make sure you go out to the polls.
