Dear Older Me,
First I would just like to say, you're old… It’s weird to think about myself 10 years from now. I’ve written letters to my future self before, but writing this one is a bit different. It’s different because 10 years from now I’ll be a full blown adult, much different than a future self I’ve ever written to.
I figured maybe I should give you an insight first, on what our life is like now. Currently we are a broke college kid who’s either enjoying life with our friends and family, or having mental breakdowns with a bag of M&Ms in the library at 10 p.m. We have a pretty great social life, while also balancing our school work to ensure we get that piece of paper we’re paying thousands for so we can get a great job.
We’re in that in-between phase of learning that we are an adult now and how to do adult things. We’re starting to realize that working no longer means spending those paychecks on clothes and other great things we want, it means spending them on bills and food for our apartment so we don't go hungry. That’s another thing, we live on our own away from home and we’re starting to come to terms with being away from Mom and Dad. (Another adulting aspect that we hate.) So basically we are learning how to do certain things that I hope now, 10 years later, we have perfected.
I’m hoping at this point you have a job you love, a job that you wake up excited to go to everyday and have trouble sleeping at night because you can’t wait to go back. I hope you own the perfect house that you've been envisioning your whole life. I hope that maybe, you finally found someone who can put up with you and loves you unconditionally. Maybe you even have a child? I hope that our family is all healthy and living great lives also, just as happy as I hope we are at this point in our life. I hope that you have been able to spoil Mom and Dad like they did for you all your life. I hope that you have set great examples for our little sisters, and cousins. I hope that you have become this person that I want us to be.
I clearly have very high hopes for us 10 years from now. My main concern for us in 10 years, is that we are happy and successful. I hope that all the efforts I’m making now have helped us reach goals and happiness 10 years later.
Love,
Your 10 year younger self
