An Open Letter To My Mom On Mother's Day

Mom,

Thank you for everything you have done and do for me. You have always been there for me, and I am lucky to have you as a mom. When I was a kid, you were actively involved in my life. I smile at the memories of the days we would picnic at Neffsville Park and you would chase me and Savannah around on jungle gym, pretending to be a monster. We went on beach trips, visited amusement parks and crafted together. I remember dressing up and going to dinner for a mommy-daughter date. We played in the dirt with my matchbox cars and climbed on top of the playhouse roof. I remember when you would meet me and Sav at the pool almost every day after work in the summer. I loved going for walks with the dogs, especially on the first snowfall of the year. I am so grateful to have these memories and to have spent such quality time with you growing up.

Once I entered high school, our relationship was tested with my teenage attitude and strong spirit. We fought a lot during those four years, but we came out of it with a stronger relationship and a better understanding of each other. This past weekend, you celebrated another milestone of my life with me: graduating from college. I learned a lot over the past four years, and I couldn't have done it without you.

So, I'm here to say, thanks, Mom.

Thank you for always supporting me. Thank you for believing in me and pushing me to give 110 percent in everything I do. Thank you for making sacrifices for me. Thank you for working long, hard hours, so I could go to college and follow my dreams. Thank you for always being there. I can talk to you about anything, and I value our open communication. We're honest with each other, and it makes our relationship stronger. Even if I don't want your advice, you lend a listening ear. If I have nothing to say, you're a shoulder to cry on. Thank you for being an amazing role model. You are one of the strongest women I know. You have taught me the value of hard work, being honest and kind and most importantly, how to be a good mom. Thank you for your unconditional love. I would honestly be lost without you. I love you so much. Happy Mother's Day!

Love always,

Your daughter

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
