Dogs have been called man’s best friend since the beginning of time. As owners of domestic pets, we often take for granted the little things our dogs do to keep us happy. Yes, they do have their accidents at times (literally), but there is nothing quite like the bond between man and dog.
I’ve been fortunate enough to grow up always having at least one dog. To anyone who was blessed with a furry friend like I was, you understand why our pups deserve a “thank you.”

Trying to fall asleep during a thunderstorm has always been tough for both of us. While you may think it was you who needed me to protect you from the flashes of lightning and the booms of thunder, it was really me who needed a furry companion by my side. And, hey, I’ll take being woken up by your slobber over an alarm clock any day.

After a long day at school or work, nothing beats coming home to your enthusiastic nature. There is no better feeling than walking through the door to a jumping pup, greeting me with kisses, a wagging tail and, of course, your favorite toy. Even though it has probably only been a couple hours since we’ve last seen each other, no one says hello quite like you.
Thank you for cleaning up my scraps.
It is always when I eat the messiest of foods that you linger to see what scraps are going to fall under the table. (Your favorites? Subs and nachos, of course.) After Mom reprimands me for letting food fall to the floor, you always come in handy and help to clean it all up thanks to your garbage disposal of a stomach.
Thank you for never judging me.
You have seen me at my lowest moment and my highest point. You have watched me grow up and become who I am today. Instead of shaming me for my mistakes, you have remained loyal and continue to stick by my side, like a true friend should. I cannot thank you enough for that.

When it is 4 a.m and you hear even the slightest noise, you do not hesitate to spring into action and stand in as an alarm system. Even if that noise is merely the wind, I thank you for being on duty 24/7 to protect my family. I know at times it may seem as though your barking makes us mad, but we appreciate your service as our own personal security guard. Also, thank you for scaring away the cable guy. I did not really need protection from him, but I got a good laugh out of it.
