An Open Letter to Those Who "Love too Hard"

For all those that fall hard, fast, and beautifully, but keep getting hurt.

To the ones who "Love too Hard",

I know you're tired. I know you feel underappreciated. You feel defeated. No matter how confident you feel about a person or a relationship, it always seems to fall apart in your hands. You always find a way to blame yourself, even though you put everything you have into every person you care about.

Let me tell you this, do not stop loving the way you do. You are one of the rare ones. To love others in such a passionate, devoted, and innocent way can be a burden. You most likely did not make any mistake at all. The people who have hurt you haven't seen how deeply you care about them (and probably never will understand) or they are incapable of providing you the love you deserve. You deserve someone who is just as hopelessly in love with you as you are with them. Do not settle for someone who doesn't have the time or want to want you. Do not chase someone who doesn't appreciate you for all you are.

If you've been hurt, take a note from the ancient Japanese art form Kintsugi. Kintsugi is the art of repairing broken pottery with gold (or other metals). These pieces are highly appreciated due to their vast uniqueness in every piece. No two pieces are broken in the same way. The same pot may have been broken several times, yet, still remains beautiful and useful after the artistic repair. Take your heart, use your own love and repair yourself. Each time you get broken, remember that it's your unique set of breaks that have made you YOU, and you strong, so strong that you fixed YOURSELF. Don't seek someone new to fix you. Give yourself the time and patience that you give everyone else and take care of your own hurt and pain for once. You are beautiful, unique, and so strong.

One day, you will find someone who not only is riveted by your beauty, but appreciates you for all those scars you have and what makes you YOU. Someone will come along, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not a year from now, that will love you the way you have loved others. Do not waste your time on people who don't cherish their time with you or what you do for them. When this person comes along, you will do as you always have, and will love fully, adoringly, and passionately. Don't let anyone destroy your innocent and beautiful heart.

Sincerely,

A Kintsugi Heart

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
