An Open Letter To My High School Best Friends

There are some things that I left unsaid.

Dear OGs,

There are never going to be enough words to describe the love I have for you guys. High school was a time of growth, a time of learning, and a time of just simply figuring things out. It was the people who we surrounded ourselves with in high school that somewhat define the way we are as a person. And I gotta say, I am so happy that it was you guys who were next to me through it all.

Through school dances, spirit nights, and early mornings, there was never a dull morning with us. Being in college now, it is hard to imagine that I could wake up every morning at 6 a.m. and head to school every day. But when I think about how I managed to do so, I think of you guys and how much the laughs and memories kept me alive throughout the day (and of course the daily iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts).

Going to the mall on Friday nights, the carnivals in May, and the random trips to the city, we always stuck together. As prom came flying by, and graduation shortly coming after, everyone was too busy looking forward to the future, that there are some things that were left unsaid. So, I wanted to say them now.

1. Thank You

Thank you for the laughs. Thank you for the constant reminder of the fact that good friends really do exist. You guys were a part of 4+ years of my life, and they were some of the happiest. People say "I hated high school" or "high school was the worst" but because of you all, it was some of the most fun times I have ever had. Thank you for the weirdest inside jokes and the longest group messages. Those will most truly never be forgotten.

2. I'm Sorry

I'm sorry for the times where I was immature and didn't act like a true friend. I'm sorry that you ever felt like I was abandoning you because I was being a little too selfish. I'm sorry if I ever felt the need to be petty and to act a certain way just to prove a point. These times I cannot take back, but know I have learned from my mistakes and I continue to strive to be a better person, and friend.

3. I Always Got Yo' Back

No matter the time or place, if you ever need to talk or vent to someone, I will always be here for you guys. You guys have always had my back in high school, and I want you to know that I will always be there for you also. I see you all on social media thriving and doing so well, and though sometimes I don't verbally say it, I will ALWAYS be rooting for you guys from the sidelines. I want the absolute best for you guys, and I am so proud of the people you are becoming.

4. I'll Always Remember You Guys

As if we are not all still friends to this day, I just want to reiterate the fact that I am always going to appreciate you guys, and how much you have impacted my life to this day. Most of you guys are still my close friends today, but if you are someone who slowly drifted away to do your own thing or vice versa, just know that I will forever hold the memories we shared close to my heart.

High school was iconic, crazy, boring, and just a whirlwind of events. I am so happy to have been able to spend them with you all. People say that most of your true friends come after high school, but I am so extremely grateful that I have found high school friends who have tested that saying.

See ya over break <3

Love always,

Me

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
