Dear High School Best Friends,
When we walked across the stage at graduation, I feel as if we began our separate paths the second we walked off. Though I've been away at college for over a year now, I've just begun to realize just how much our lives have taken different routes.
Our summers used to be filled with sun, sand and wrinkly fingers. Now, my summers mean work, summer classes, and way too many responsibilities. Don't get me wrong, I love my college life, but some days I miss having which swimsuit to wear that day as my hardest decision to make. Our careless summers are something I will always remember.
Though some of us moved away and took a new path, it doesn't mean we aren't friends any longer. We're just friends who no longer live in the same small town. Growing up doesn't mean losing each other, it just means appreciating each other in a new way.
We will still see each other over holidays and weekend getaways. Seeing an old friend will always bring joy. Just because I am farther away now, doesn't mean you can get rid of me. Sorry, you're stuck with my friendship for life guys. Seeing each other will come less frequently, but that's alright. We will appreciate it more when we do get to spend time together.
I'm still only a phone call or a text away. Going to college doesn't mean I'm on the other side of the world or anything. Though at times, it may feel that way.
What I'm trying to tell you all is this. Life may have changed, but it doesn't mean that our friendship is over. All of us couldn't stay in the same place forever. Growing up is about change, and that's just what all of us have done in a short period of time. But, growing up is also about learning how to adapt to change, and that's what we are now doing.
Times may change, but our memories never will. Our years spent adventuring will always be the best I've ever had. We helped each other learn, grow and become the people we are today. No matter where life may take us, we will always have each other.
Love always,
Your Friend
