An Open Letter To High End Makeup Brands

Why you cost so much money?

Dear Expensive Makeup Brands,

I just have one question for you: why?

Why are you so expensive? Are you made out of gold flakes or something to somehow enhance my non-existent cheekbones? I mean if you are made of such rich material like that then, at least, publish it somehow through marketing so we know what is going on.

In case you weren't aware, you really love to just eat my paychecks away. You know that no girl just goes into Sephora or Ulta just to "look." That is not a thing. When you go in to browse around, of course, you are leaving with something. You find a way with our heads to make us know that we just have to have it. Well, if that is the case then I want to know what kind of magical sorcerer you have working for you who can make that happen.

Beauty bloggers love you. I think it is safe to say that almost every girl has watched makeup tutorials at least once in her life. I don't need 14 products like these girls and they are all so expensive! Make an all in one or something, or, even better, a spray that we just hold away and spritz and then our face is on.

Why do you always come out with new collections all around the same time. I need to work so I can purchase the new collections but it's so hard when everything comes out at once! Not to call anyone out but... Tarte. You are my favorite and you really decided to hit it home with Double Duty Beauty, Rainforest of the Sea (my favorite, ever) and Lashpaint? My whole face is Tarte. Which I really don't mind at all since they do not test on animals.

Finally, why do most of you still continue to test on animals? With your very high prices for products that can be purchased cheaper, you still make an incredible profit off of your product. With all of that money, find a new way to test. There is nothing more awful than putting on mascara and thinking that some innocent rabbit had to suffer to make sure that I can enhance my eyelashes for a few hours. It is upsetting. I wish that more people educated themselves about what goes on behind the scenes of the makeup industry but that is not my place to shove my views down other people's throats.

Thats all,

Courtney

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
