An Open Letter To HGTV

Dearest HGTV,

Over the years I have really grown to like and appreciate you. In my opinion, you are the best channel that is offered on cable. Whether is it “Flip or Flop”, “Fixer Upper”, “Property Brothers”, or “House Hunters”, I am always entertained. Personally, I have grown to favor Fixer Upper because I love the work of Chip and Joanna Gaines. All of the shows that you broadcast exhibit so much talent, but Chip and Joanna have really stood out to me over the past few months.

I think that my mother is responsible for my obsession with you. You are always her go-to channel, so when she has the television on in the house, nine times out of ten you are playing. My mom loves home decorating. I have to say she has a knack for it. She has decorated every house that we have lived in by herself, and has always done a phenomenal job. She loves watching all of your shows to gather new ideas and to see the latest trends, and her love for you has definitely rubbed off on me.

I am so thankful that you have allowed me to gain an appreciation for interior design and home renovation. Your shows have taught me so much about the complexities of renovating homes as well as the challenges that come with it. I am amazed that the people on your channel can take a home that is completely rundown and make it into something extravagant. Being able to watch these transformations is so awesome, and even hard to believe at times. I love seeing creative individuals embrace their passion and do so successfully because it truly inspires me. They have a special talent that many people do not possess.

You have opened my eyes to the world of flooring, shiplap, countertops, molding, and so much more. You have provided me with the opportunity to see houses across the country. I am able to explore the world through you and learn about the cultural differences that exist in regards to living space.

I have to say that you have become more than just a television channel to me. You have become a great distraction for me when I’m stressed or feeling down. You have taught me so much, inspired me, motivated me to channel my inner creativity and put it to use, and have ultimately pushed me to keep an open mind. I have grown to appreciate my home as well as my community because of you and what you have presented to me.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for being a friend to me and for making me a better person. Although I am not on track to becoming an interior designer or an architect, I know that I will always carry you with me throughout my life. I cannot wait to decorate my first home one day and implement all of the amazing ideas that you have offered to me. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Your Biggest Fan

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
