To the Future Generations of New Technological Advancements,
Be aware that your life and my life could be completely different. With new advancements, things of the past are disintegrating and could be forgotten forever. Those things of the past were my childhood and my most cherished moments.
Now listen up. It is very important to never forget the "simple things" such as outdoor games and creating your own fun with arts and crafts, board games, riding bikes, lemonade stands, tag and hide-and-seek.
Technology is amazing and has positively impacted our world, but if it becomes the only thing that people rely on, then your life could be completely different than mine. I was exposed to technology when I was a child, but I was also exposed to much more than that. I used to spend hours outside playing on the swings, but I also used to play computer games. It is vital to have a healthy balance, which I am unsure that the future generations will have.
Right now, there are so many advancements that the past generations never thought would be possible, but in the future, it will only surprise us even more.
So what is next? Cars that can drive themselves and everything that can be done for you without even a little bit of effort? Robots and cloning? What will be the new selfie? You could become completely dependent, lazy and reliant. There's no fun in that. Essentially, if technology does all of the work for you, you lose the ability to perform tasks for yourself and never have to do any thinking because it can be done for you.
You could be asking: What is mental math? You mean calculators didn't always exist? You had to actually type on a computer yourself? You had to drive a car yourself or even use a bike? Please don’t forget about hard copies of newspapers, magazines and books. In the future, you may not have libraries or any hard copies. And yes, going to the library is enjoyable.
One of the most important forms of advice I can give to you, is to never lose your ability to communicate with others due to technology and cellphones. Texting conversations are NOT the same as talking to a person face-to-face.
Technology has incredible powers, but please do not forget that it is not great to rely solely on it. Technology makes our lives easier, but it should not define you and make it as though you are unable to have real conversations in person.
Your social skills are not showcased over text as much as in person, and your impressions count in person. It is better to limit your technology use to enjoy time with those around you and cherish the the little things, the "things of the past."
