Rosie,
It is hard to imagine that you are no longer the cute 12-year-old at the intensive winning all the affections from the scary old girls- although arguably you are still pretty cute. When those Alabama students called you a princess, they were right (in the best sense of the word).
You bring a sense of royal magic to everything you touch- and not the selfish kind of airs, but the kind that uses the royal “we” and offers to do my makeup so I look almost as magical as you at prom. It is amazing how brightly your light shines. If eyebrows speak louder than words, then you are singing the night away with your perfectly crafted brows that still do not cease to amaze me. When you taught me how to shape my brows like you and when you showed up with that fancy new sports bra and when you perfected that trick on the first try and when you got that super important dance guy from New York to love you this summer, you perpetuated that royal mystery that you carry.
You’re the girl that people ask, “how does she do it?” about. No wonder you have me and Megan A and the whole dance studio copying you. You are so intelligent and artistic and what really makes you special is how individual you are. You have taught me how to be my own person and develop my own style (but I’m still in awe of yours). As I watch you grow into someone I’m so proud of, someone that stands up when they hear people disrespecting the rights of others to love who they want, I realize how lucky I am to be able to say that I was Rose Meyers’s best friend before she was famous (and hopefully after too).
Of course, there will be an arduous journey to your stardom, but I would love to be there every step of the way, just as we shared our own arduous journey to maturity. Yes, even the incredible and effortless Rose Meyers was once somewhat sausage-like and engaged in some unapproved extracurricular activities. She even had her best friend alongside her, and they were both quite a mess.
This mess didn’t last forever though, and though the pair sometimes claim that they are boring now, they are actually more exciting because of what they now use their minds to accomplish. Being a part of your journey is something nobody can ever forget because of your drive and your humor and your ability to bring beauty to everything you touch.
It is sometimes creepy when we say the same thing at the same time or wink scarily or speak without speaking, but it is mostly just really awesome being friends with someone like you. You share my tastes in sushi and Thai and crying about dancers that are better than us, but you bring so much of yourself to this friendship. I look up to you so much and I can’t wait to see what you will do.
As you go through your senior year with crazy applications and auditions, remember that you are an artistic and intelligent anomaly. You will create an amazing future for yourself that nobody can even imagine.
Love,
Danielle
