Dear Best Friend,
Congratulations! We have conquered another year of college and have surpassed another year of the fears and doubts that were placed upon us. So many people told us that best friends from high school don’t always stick by you in college, and that it's natural if we forget each other because it happens to everyone. While it’s true that our friendship is one based by phone (get into social media already!) and our friend groups have certainly expanded, you are still one of my favorite people.
Like a stalker, you know everything that is going on in my life as well as the lives of my family. You know that I didn’t do too well on that exam I took yesterday, and heard me rant about a professor and class that you only sort of understand. And that’s okay. You listen with your heart, know exactly what to say, and encourage me what to do next. More than that, you have endless faith in me. You have seen me at my worst, and have stood by my side at my best. Your strength and faith in God is endless, and you are one of my biggest blessings. Thank you for being a literal phone call away, and so understanding that our “bonding” consists of Netflix and naps.
You are never jealous or upset when I overload my social media with friends from college. Even when we are together for the first time in months, I don’t put you on social media because I have no reason to brag that I have the best friend in the world. Freshman year we skyped and facetimed, sophomore year we texted, and this year we call each other more often than I order pizza (which is saying something).
Be sure to tell your parents that their favorite daughter says hello, and I can’t wait to see you again!
Love,
Christina Martinez
