An Open Letter To My Best Friend

"Best friends don't necessarily have to talk every day. They don't even need to talk for weeks. But when they do, it's like they never stopped talking." ~Author unknown

Dear best friend,

I know things aren't the same as they used to be when we were in middle school when we first became best friends. We have changed and grown since then, we are talking about new issues in our life. You're in basic training for the U.S. Army and I'm in college trying to become a teacher. Our lives are completely different. But that doesn't change how much I care about your life.

I can remember a time when we would stay up late talking about how much we wanted to leave this town and change our whole entire scenery and forget all our worries. We would talk about all the latest bands we found or how many tattoos we wanted in the future and piercings.

We cried over things together and laughed till our stomachs hurt. You helped me through so much when I first met you in middle school and I honestly cannot thank you enough for that or I wouldn't be where I am today. I would've given up on everything if I did have a best friend like you. I brag about you at college like a proud PTA mom. Same goes with your little sister, it's like I'm a proud mom of my two best friends. It's kind of funny how I ended up being your guys' friends all of the sudden. Not only you, but both of you both have always felt like sisters to me.

When you lived close to me, we would spend a lot of time together over the summer and just go on random adventures and scream All Time Low lyrics while the windows were rolled down. I don't think I would ever change the times we had jumping around to music whether it was in your living room or on our walks together.

I want you to know this, dude. I'm so proud of you. You have accomplished so much and that motivates me to keep going in college. I miss you a lot but I'm sure things won't change once I see you again. I'll be so happy to see you. But keep pushing, I know you're killing it.

No matter how many times were apart for a long time in our lives, you'll always be my best friend and we will always understand each other in more ways than someone else could ever try to.

Thank you for being in my life and I can't wait for many more memories to come!

Love you so much, Private Morgan.

Your best friend,

Brianna

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
