How have I lived life this long without you?

Open Letter To My First College Best Friend

Dear first college best friend,

First of all, can you believe this year is almost over? We're both about to pack up and head back to our hometowns for the summer. I seriously don't know if I can deal with us being apart for that long. There are so many things I should thank you for because there is no way I could have done this year without you.

Thank you for all the caf dates. You get hungry just as much as I do, so when I'm ready to caf, you're ready to caf! And thanks for not judging me if I get a dessert for every single meal.

Thank you for always going to the library with me. We're in the library every available moment we have, and it's much better to not go alone! We spend so much time in the library because we talk the whole time and get nothing accomplished, but it's the thought that counts... right?

Thank you for taking me to your hometown. It was so fun meeting your family and hearing all of the rumors and crazy stories about friends you went to high school with. It turns out my hometown seems a little normal compared to yours! Plus, all my Snapchat stories of baby pictures I found of you scattered through the house were pretty epic!

Thank you for coming to my hometown. I love my hometown friends and I seriously knew they were going to love you. You finally got to see my high school, where I used to hang out on the weekends, and my ex-boyfriend's house. I think my mom likes you more than she likes me. She thinks you're a good influence on me.

Thank you for all the new memories. Coming into college, I didn't think anything could compare to my high school memories because they were the best. I was wrong! Thanks for experiencing this whole new part of life with me, and making the best of it!

Thanks for crying with me. Laughing so hard that we cry, crying because we're so tired, crying because we don't want to walk all the way to the caf, crying because we don't want to work out, crying because we don't want to go to class, crying because we are failing the class, crying because we're failing at life... Yeah. Thanks for crying with me pretty much every day.

Thank you for earning the title "best friend" in such a short amount of time. You've never failed to be there for me, lift my spirits, and help me get used to this whole college thing. I love you so much!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
