We live in a very connected world. We can't do anything nowadays without someone finding out about it and possibly posting it to some form of social media. And as social media works nowadays some stories and videos blow up very very quickly on the internet, possible overnight.
One general story theme that keeps getting passed around every corner of the internet, almost every single day, is the idea that cops are bad people. All we ever see when it comes to police officers is reports on them that show they either shot and killed someone or they physically beat someone within an inch of their life. And almost always these stories are reported about cops who shot or beat up a minority race. Almost all cops nowadays are profiled to be like this picture:
In our day and age we will see thousands of stories every week. We need to stop publishing and believing that cops are bad people! There is a new story every week about how some cop did something horrible to some civilian. However what is not reported every day is about all the other cops who do their jobs with great honor and diligence. All we hear about are the bad cops, the 1% of cops, who misuse their power and perform awful atrocities. We need to realize that 99% of cops are good, hardworking people that do their job to the upmost of their ability and follow the law in every aspect.
We, as a country, can not continue to report on just the bad cops. We need to start acknowledging the good cops, the 99% of cops who do their job upright every single day. These stories are putting a bad image into the minds of our citizens and most importantly into the minds of our youth. People are starting to accept the idea that cops are bad people. We simply cannot have this image in the minds of our people. We need our youth, as well as everyone else, to understand that cops are here to PROTECT and SERVE the people. They are not there to cause trouble, or to hurt/kill anyone. If and sometimes when those things happen it is because it was either necessary to uphold the law or it was rare example of the 1% of bad cops misusing their power.
We are casting a bad image into the minds of our people. These stories and ideas are only teaching our youth that cops are people to avoid. We need our youth to understand that cops are people you can turn to for help when you are endangered or feel threatened, not another person to run away from. I personally know people who don't believe that cops are here to protect and serve anymore. People need to believe that cops are here for us. If we are afraid of the very people who are suppose to protect us, we will have no one to turn if something terrible every does happen.
We live in a social media age that for some reason often times want to show the worst of the world. We need to understand that these stories we see are not the whole picture, they are a tiny frame. 99% percent of cops do their jobs faithfully every day and are here to protect and serve us, the people. Even if you hate getting a speeding ticket, or hate having to get your car back from the impound lot, every cop only does these things to uphold the law. Cops are good people, people we need to be able to trust and turn to in times of danger and in times of need.
We need to remember, the good guys are only one call away....
