An Open Letter To The College Student Starting The New Semester
erhs.la

Ah, the start of a new college semester. New books, new classes, new everything. No matter how old or young you are, lots of things are running through your mind. There are so many things to remember as you start a new year of school, so here are few of them.

The new school year has finally arrived and everything is starting to fall into place. Whether it is your first year on campus or your last, you feel a mix of emotions as you begin the semester. As you move in or return to the place you will be living, you settle in and picture yourself doing schoolwork, making memories, and enjoying your year. You start to buy school supplies and textbooks and look into your classes. You meet the people on your hall or in your building and get to know them. You get your first taste of what this period of life will be like.

You may also worry. You may feel like the transition to a new school or the return to academics is stressful. You may feel you are not prepared for what is ahead or intimidated by the situation you’re being placed in. In many situations, you may not have had much control over your schedule and living arrangements. If you did have the opportunity to make that choice, maybe you’re starting to doubt yourself.

The most important thing to remember is that you aren’t the first person to be in this situation. Although not everyone goes to college, many people do, and many people constantly face similar highs and lows. No matter how things start off, you can always find your niche and what living/rooming/academic scenario works best for you. It’s best to go with the flow, and give every situation some time. Regardless of any predicament, there are literally hundreds of fun and exciting things to do in college, and there is always a way to make the best of it.

Don’t forget to embrace change, branch out, and not be afraid to make mistakes. Don’t let one bad grade or a rough day ruin your week. Don’t let fear of the new or daunting keep you from doing what you want to do. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and take chances because this is the perfect time in your life to do so.

Remember to stay grounded and focused on your goals, but don’t forget to leave room for fun. Remember to take care of yourself, both physically and mentally (both are equally important). Remember to take every opportunity that comes your way so that you don’t miss a chance at something that could have the potential to change your life. Remember to be welcoming to those around you because you never know what they may be struggling with in their own lives.

This may be a lot to remember and some of it may seem a bit basic, but this semester has the potential to be the best of your college career and it is up to you to make it just that. No matter where you are or how far along in your journey you are, beginning a new semester can be intimidating, exciting, and nerve-racking. And if you are feeling overwhelmed, just remember that there are people all around you that are feeling the same way.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
