An Open Letter To My First College Friends

All I can say is thank you.

An Open Letter To My First College Friends
Payton Cannon

Dear first college friends,

I want to start off by first telling you thank you. Thank you for everything you have done for me this year. Thank you for learning about my quirky ways, and loving me anyways. Thank you for listening to me complain constantly, but still listen 3 weeks later after hearing it over and over. Thank you for studying with me until 2 am and actually hold me accountable. Thank you for getting dinner with me and wine nights. Thank you for watching sappy movies with me so I don’t have to do it alone. Thank you for never letting me walk home alone after a night out. Thank you for always reminding me to smile and for making sure I not only do that, but laugh too

I’m writing you this letter because I don’t think you realize how much you mean to me. Yeah, we only hang out every day and sit there and laugh about nothing. You only just sit and listen to me constantly complain about life and school and drama. Yeah, it seems like nothing right? But let me tell you, it’s everything. It’s absolutely EVERYTHING. When I first came to college, I left all my family. My friends. My home. I left it all behind and yeah, they all had my back and all, I had no one here. Maybe 2-3 friends who I barely even saw. Let me tell you, when you have had the worst day in the world, sometimes you just need a hug. Even though my best friends back home called me and talked me through it, it still doesn’t compare to the hugs I get after that awful thing.

I’m so so SO happy I found some girls who I literally relate to so much. Whether it’s our love for chips and queso, or margaritas. Greys anatomy. Our hate for humanities. Our passion to be teachers. And the list goes on. I know I can always count on you. I can count on you to go out with or count on you to simply take a nap with. I can count on you at 2 in the afternoon or 4 in the morning. I can count on you whether it’s sunny or pouring down rain. I can count on you even when you’re hurting. I can always count on you.

I know there is so much more to be said. So many more memories to comment about. So many things we have yet to make with each other. But this pretty much sums it up. I’m so glad I found some girls who I can count on and know will have my back at the end of the day.

I love you so much!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
