Dear Best Friend,
With your last semester of college is coming to a close, I have thought about you a lot. I have thought about everything we have gone through in these past four years together. Here is just a glimpse at a few things:
1. Our first Halloween together. You were Little Red Riding Hood, I was a hippie (I know shocker 😉) We did not know each other that well, we just had the same class together and were mutual friends with one of the girls on your floor. Who knew this would start our friendship.
2. Our slumber party in my dorm room. It was the end of our first semester at Concordia, before we left my roommate and I decided to have our little friend group in our room for a sleep over.
3. The proclamation of us becoming roommates for our sophomore year. Our friendship grew significantly in such a short period of time, and we both decided we wanted to live together. So, we did.
4. My mom’s death. Our second semester as roommates, we were striving living together. We did not see each other much though because we both were so busy with work and school. When you heard what happened, you were by my side as quickly as possible. I was a mess, you were too. You were by my side through everything, riding in the car with me to the train station, trying to make me happy. Holding my hand when I found out how she died (you did not go to class because of this.) Constantly texting me to make sure I was okay.
5. My 21st birthday. You were not there for it but before I left to go back home for the summer you gave me two presents that were so sentimental: a bottle of “really hot” hot sauce that you got when you were traveling and a cup with Audrey Hepburn with a quote from her. You give the best gifts because (most of the time) you actually listen when people are talking and know the person’s likes if you truly care about that person.
6. Your 21st birthday. We went out with our little friend group and you and I shared a huge drink together. I am not a huge fan of drinking but with you and for your birthday I did it.
7. My 22nd birthday. This was my first birthday away from home and you knew how hard it was for me. I already don’t like that I no longer have “fun” birthdays to look forward to and you just kept asking me “you feeling 22?” But you made up for it by making me cupcakes out of the same cake mix my mom would use for all my birthdays in the past.
Now you are graduating and going off to be a bad ass high school math teacher. On top of that you are graduating from here Summa Cum Laude! I am so proud of you and so happy that I can call you my best friend. I am amazingly blessed by all the memories that we have had together, the good and the bad. I can’t wait to see what our futures hold.
Love Always,
Your Best Friend
