Hi Boss:

I just want to take a minute to tell you how great you are. You let me come into work late and you let me leave early. You buy me breakfast almost day and you let me pick the music when we have to drive to an account together. As a boss, you are tough but loving. You show me new things every day and you have so much patience with me when I mess something up—not that that ever happens ;) You like to slip in life lessons when we talk about office work and you are always willing to show me how to use a new gadget.

Working with you has been very special to me. You hired me right out of college. You took a leap of faith with me and I will forever be grateful for that. You were in the process of opening your own business and continuing to follow your dreams, but you never hesitated to let me tag along and try to help. In your industry, you are one of the best—people from all over the nation call you to get your opinion and have you help them. You train other people all the time and I feel very blessed to have gotten the chance to have you train me too.

When my friends talk to me about their jobs and their bosses, they have a lot of complaints—I don’t get paid enough, I get taken advantage of, I don’t like who I work with, etc. Well I love who I work with. I love who my boss is. I love the new challenges that I get faced with every day. I feel like the skills that I have learned at this job have helped to mold me as an employee, but more importantly they have helped mold me as a person.

And I have you to thank for that dad. You have been my boss for a while, but you will always be my dad no matter where my career takes me. You have loved and supported me through boyfriends, schools, mood swings, and everything in between. But I now have even more blessings to count since you got to be my boss—even though I never really thought of you as a boss. I thought about you as more of a teacher who genuinely cared about me and my wellbeing and, well of course, my job.

As our time as employee and boss winds down, our time as daughter and father will never stop. I am forever grateful for all the extra time that we have gotten to spend together. We have shared so many moments together and we have so many inside jokes now from our long car rides together. This goodbye is bitter sweet. I am going to miss eating breakfast with you every morning. I am going to miss you taking naps in the car, you telling me not to text and drive, and you letting me go to get my nails done in the middle of the work day. But I am excited to show you that all the time that you invested in me really did pay off.

I really had it made in the shade with you. I know that I have to grow up and get a 401K and benefits, but you will always be my favorite boss. Like I said, you have truly sculpted me as an employee and as a person. And don’t worry, I will still come over for dinner and help you with some paperwork :)

Since I happen to be writing this letter on company time, I should probably wrap it up, even though I could write about our great experiences for the rest of the day. Thanks for being my mentor, my role model, my boss, and my dad all wrapped into one. I love you, boss (dad)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
