An Open Letter to My Best Friend's Boyfriend

Dear my best friend's boyfriend,

I already know you much better than you know me. I've stalked you (and probably all of your ex-girlfriends) on every form of social media that I could find. I know just as much about this relationship as you do and probably even more.

Now, you're probably afraid that she tells me every single detail about your relationship. And the truth is- she does. It's a girl thing. We really just can't help ourselves. Every single relationship we are involved in is a group effort, and you're just going to have to get used to it. And I hate to break it to you, but you can't get upset about that because I have already been in this relationship way longer than you have.

I was there when she first saw saw you and thought you were the cutest guy she had ever seen. I was there when she first started talking to you and needed to be reminded how beautiful and perfect she was so she didn't have a panic attack and forget how to speak. I was there when she decided she liked you and when she was freaking out wondering if you liked her too. I can tell by the smile on her face when it's you that's texting her, and I can tell by the wrinkle she gets in her brow when you say something that upsets her. I know the way her brain works even better than she does and I can always calm her down when she's acting crazy.

So don't worry- I'm on your side here. If she's happy, then I'm happy, and happy is what you make her. I'm rooting for you guys to make it because I don't want her happiness to end. She knows I'll give my honest opinion when she asks me for advice, and that's not always what she wants to hear. I'll be the first one to tell her when she's overreacting to something and I'll never get tired of telling her what a good guy I think you are for her.

I may like you, but I'll never really think that you deserve her, and I'll probably never completely trust that you'll never hurt her. It's nothing personal. I've just seen her go through countless ups and downs with boys that have come and gone, so you can't blame me for being a little protective. But for now, I think you're all right.

If there's one thing about her you should know, it's that you are a lucky, lucky person to have this special place in her life. You have somehow squirmed your way into her heart, so you better not screw this up. There is not a doubt in my mind that you care about her, but I can promise you that I care about her more. So take this as me formally giving you my blessing to be with her. Just don't forget, it always has been and always will be best friends over boyfriends, so you better not try to steal my girl from me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
