An Open Letter To My Best Friend At A Different College

Distance means nothing when someone means so much

An Open Letter To My Best Friend At A Different College
Hannah Faulkner

Dear Best Friend,

I remember the months of senior year when we were both so excited to open our College acceptance letters. As the days went on we became more anxious, anticipating what we knew would change our lives forever to show up in our mailboxes. Knowingly we both applied to different schools and it was inevitable that we were both going to go our separate ways. Somehow we pushed this thought to the back of our heads and refused to believe that there would be no more classes together, no more times where we would be on the same sports team and no more weekly sleepovers. All good things have to come to an end right? Thankfully, with you, this saying isn't true. No matter how far apart we might be, whether I get to see you every day or it's just on holidays and school breaks, I know you will always be there for me. Words can not describe how much I miss you. There's nothing more that I miss than hearing your corny jokes every day and our obsession over certain college basketball players and soccer players. The random trips to our favorite Mexican restaurant or the times you randomly showed up at my house just because I told you I was having pizza for dinner. What can I say, without you a pizza me is missing (that corny joke was for you).

*Insert laugh here*

I miss the times where we would sit around watching our favorite shows like Catfish and our favorite movies like "She's The Man", "White Chicks", and "High School Musical." I miss the days where I would walk into your house and just hang out with your family even if you weren't there. Despite the fact that you won't admit it, I still might be the favorite daughter out of the two of us.

We have both taken a step in our lives to better ourselves in ways that we can not even imagine yet. We have moved to a new place, taken on new responsibilities, and have even made new friends. People kept telling me that high-school relationships don't last but I am glad to say that we have proven them wrong. Even though we may not talk every day of the week I know you are still just a phone call or FaceTime away. It is so easy to get overwhelmed with research papers, Chemistry classes, and other obligations. Thank you for still making time for me even while juggling all of those other things. Just remember that you are so special to me and no one can fill the role that you have in my life (plus you know way too much). No matter how far away we may wander from each other I will always be here for you no matter what time of day it might be. Even though I miss you an unfathomable amount I am so glad that I have the honor of having a friend that is as great as you to miss.

Love,

Your forever friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
