As you begin a new chapter in your life, one that I won’t necessarily be 100 percent a part of, it’s going to be amazing. As you venture off into a new chapter of your life, your freshman year of college, I want you to know how important you are to me. Of course, our friendship isn’t ending. This is the beginning of a new chapter for both of us, both being in college, both being miles away, and both growing into our new grown-up lives. Although I’ve already started my college experience a year earlier than you, I’ve got a few things I have to say before you go.
Thank you for being there for me when I’ve needed you most.
Where do I even begin? You’ve helped me through some of the darkest parts of my life and have loved me unconditionally throughout it all. Without you I would have been completely lost, especially during my freshman year of college last year. All of those late-night phone calls, last-minute diner runs, and endless drives singing One Direction at the top of our lungs are, unfortunately, on hold for now, but I’ll never forget them.
Thank you for hating my ex-boyfriends more than I do.
Naturally, it’s normal for the best friend to hate the best friend's ex-boyfriend, but you hate them just the right amount. If it weren’t for your insight and hatred towards them, I don’t think I would have realized myself how horrible those guys were too. Of course, thank you for binge eating ice cream and Cheetos whenever I got my heart broken, because everyone needs a junk-food buddy in times like those.
Thank you for embracing my weirdness.
There aren’t too many people who can truly appreciate someone for who they genuinely are, but you do. You love me and all of my weird qualities and you might even love me more for them. If it weren’t for you, I would not have been so comfortable to be my true self around other people besides you.
Thank you for the endless number of memories.
It’s normal for best friends to spend days at a time together, not getting sick of each other, and that’s exactly how it is for us. I will forever cherish our good times, bad times, sad times, and funniest times, because without them my life wouldn’t be the way it is now.
I am so proud of you for all that you have accomplished and gotten through. It’s been a long ride, and you’ve finally made it. I’m proud of the woman you’ve become and I’m honored to be your best friend and have been there with you through it all. Even if we drift apart, it’s okay--because we have the most incredible bond and friendship that will be able to pick up right where we left off. Don’t be afraid to be yourself in college, and never forget that you’re the bomb dot-com.
I love you bubs!
