An Open Letter To Annoying Retail Stores

Allow me to spend my money peacefully.

Dear Annoying Retail Stores,

We are all tired of your sales staff and the ridiculous sales strategies you teach them. It is bad enough that we buy your overpriced clothes, and attend every sale because we honestly believe that we are getting a good deal. However, your staff still manages to follow us around the store, pointing out the most expensive items that have been discounted. I am sorry but I will not even consider paying $85 for a shirt, and I am still not interested in the discounted price of $75. The sad thing is, this shirt looks like every other shirt women are wearing. We think we are making a fashion statement when really we are conforming to an unrealistic identity.

Additionally, we would all appreciate it if you would stop having your sales staff harass us about "rewards cards". I put this in quotations because is this really a rewards card, or a credit card in disguise? I understand that if you are constantly shopping at the same store, it would be ideal to get one of these "rewards cards". However, it is important to respect those who just do not want to be chained to a credit card. Personally, I have bad spending habits when it comes to clothes. I know that if I sign up for one of these "rewards cards", it would only increase my need to spend money. Ultimately, I would have to pay that money back while racking up a large amount on the card. I would then be put in a difficult situation to pay off the "rewards card".

Furthermore, please stop pressing me to sign up for a "rewards card"! I am already spending way too much on your clothes, perfumes, and accessories. What more could you want from me? I am tired of going up to the register and having to explain why I cannot have one of these cards. The answer "no", should be a good enough reason instead of having to hear, "You will get 50% your purchase and you can pay it off in the store. You are old enough to get one. Your parents will not care." Actually, my parents will care because they are well aware of my spending habits, and they just want to protect me. Stop trying to make me a money spending rebel!

Overall, we all just want to enjoy our shopping experience. Shopping is therapeutic for most of us, and being harassed at the register is annoying. I love hearing about sales, and knowing what new products have been released. Employees are just trying to do their jobs, and that is fine. However, keep your customers in mind and respect their choices. We are willing to buy your clothes and products if you can provide us with a welcoming shopping experience.

Sincerely,

Frustrated Shopaholics

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
