An Open Letter To My Amazing Support System
Emily Graham

Dear anyone who has supported me in my life journey,

Thank you for being you and supporting me in all that I do. I have had many adventures throughout my 19 short years from being on a cross country team to going on a mission trip to Honduras. Nine months ago, I began my newest journey, college. Now in the middle of finals week, I am so thankful for everyone who has been there for me on the first leg of this awesome, hectic, exhausting adventure.

To my parents: Thank you for encouraging me throughout this new stage of life. It is weird working out new relationship dynamics and even weirder that I don’t see you all the time anymore. Thank you for allowing me to become more independent and for picking me up when I fall down. I wouldn’t be who I am without you. I love you!

To my siblings: Thank you for being my first roommates ever. You taught me more than you can imagine about living with other people and conflict management. I love coming home and seeing you all and catching up on life. Growing up is weird and can be scary but I am so glad that I have all of you on my side.

To my boyfriend: Thank you for putting up with my insanity this year. You have been by my side through each bump on the road and I have tried my best to be with you for each of the obstacles you’ve encountered. Thank you for being a shoulder to cry on, my number one Mario Kart buddy (you're number one only because you win every time), always attempting to make me smile and laugh, and for being yourself inside and out. We’ve done pretty well with this long-distance stuff, and I imagine we’ll continue to do so.

To my high school friends: You guys will be important to me always. We might not see each other often anymore, but that’s why we have Facebook and Messenger! We still can stay fairly up to date on each other’s lives and when we hang out, it’s like nothing has changed at all! I wish you all the best of luck on your finals and I pray you make it out of this hell week alive. Thank you for making me feel secure in who I am both in college and throughout high school.

To my college friends: Wow! I am so thankful for you all. I love all the fun times we have together and I am so thankful we can all just be a bunch of nerds together. You guys are awesome and I can’t imagine this year without you. Also, thanks for accepting me for my crazy, enthusiastic, goofy self. I can’t wait for next year!

To my past teachers: Thank you for preparing me for college and encouraging me through high school. You’ve all made a difference in my life and took an important part in molding me into the student I am today. I look forward to joining you one day as a fellow educator.

To my college professors: You all have made your impact on my first two semesters. Thank you for challenging me to expand my horizons and encouraging me to improve myself. Many say that you get out of a course what you put into it, but it takes great professors to make that course in the first place.

To everyone else: Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I love you guys and I am so thankful to have you in my life.

Love/Sincerely/God’s Blessings,

Emily

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
