Dear Little Sister,
You're almost an adult, and I couldn't be more proud of you! I can’t believe how you’ve grown into the beautiful, intelligent, and kind young woman you are today. However, I have a little advice for you for this next part of your journey.
First, don’t let any boy break your heart. You are worth more than what they think of you. You deserve the whole world and should never settle for anyone who is offering you less. You are a princess in God’s eyes, and anyone who can’t see that isn't deserving of you. In a year when you’re off in college, you won’t even remember their names!
Second, don’t worry about your appearance. It’s nice to look good, but it’s not everything. God made you exactly the way he wanted, and no one should tell you you’re not pretty enough! You don’t need all the makeup, hair products, and new clothes to rock your inner goddess. You’re naturally gorgeous! Trust me, the extra 15 minutes you’ll get of sleep is totally worth not curling your hair.
Don’t let the excitement of the future blind your enjoyment of right now. I made huge mistakes my senior year of high school by checking out. I was so wrapped up in leaving high school and going to college that I didn’t allow myself to have fun. I skipped football games (which would have been much more entertaining than watching TV lazily), ignored spending time with my friends, and just generally focused more on my future than my present. Don’t make the same mistakes as I did. Go to every football game, join the school play, and hang out with your friends. A year from now, you’ll regret that you didn’t.
Finally, cherish this moment because this is your last birthday as a kid. Next year you’ll be an adult, going to college, and learning how to live on your own. Enjoy not having to do your laundry every week because trust me, it’s not fun. Enjoy having a room all to yourself and having your mom right there right when you need a hug. I know I’ve needed a few hugs from her in the past two years! Enjoy this time because in a year it will be gone. But I know you can rock it!
So let this next year do its worst, you’ve got this!Love,
Your Big Sister
