Remember Saul? He was awful.
For those who don't know, Saul was a Pharisee (super religious, law-following, Jewish guy) in the first century (after Jesus resurrected). I would go as far as to compare him to Hitler – committing mass genocide in the name of a higher power. Saul genuinely believed what he was doing was right – killing Jews gone astray, following a false and dead messianic figure and purifying the synagogue.
Luckily for the first century and twenty-first century Church alike, Jesus revealed Himself to Saul. He was also renamed Paul.
Paul went on to be one of the most influential Christians in history. He wrote about 8 books from the New Testament (a number that biblical scholars often debate), and changed many people's lives. He traveled all over the Roman world, spreading the Gospel, and we still read his letters today. Those letters challenge us today as they challenged the original people he wrote to – challenges to focus on Christ, to love our enemies, to live in harmony, to live boldly for God and to expect Jesus to return.
Saul was a terrifying individual who used his power to segregate, torture, capture and kill marginalized people. But only through the Almighty God did Saul become Paul, an important instrument to further the Kingdom of Heaven.
So if God has the power to convert someone as corrupt and powerful as Saul, who's to say He can't change the President of the United States?
