“So… What is it like?” You’ll probably receive this question 100 times during welcome week alone. And you’ll learn that it is the best place on campus that you could possibly rest your head every night. Here are a few things you’ll need to know if you’re so lucky as to call Bobb-McCulloch Hall your residence hall this year.
It’s pronounced “Bobb.”
Even if you’re on the McCulloch side of the hall, still say you live in Bobb. Otherwise, you’ll get a nostalgic laugh, combined with a “Oh, I remember when I was a freshman” gaze.
Be prepared to have people over.
Not all the time, but it is pretty common practice for people to pop in. Bobb is the most social dorm on campus, and is conveniently located in the middle of the frat quad. Whether it is friends popping in or getting ready to go out, friends in Bobb are the most likely to be a host or hostess, so arrange your room accordingly.
Prepare for the worst.
For example, when you’re getting ready for football tailgating and it looks like someone had too much fun last night in both of the bathrooms on your floor. Or when someone thought it would be cool to rip a sink out from the wall of the bathroom, or to smash a pumpkin in the hallway, or to rip all of the cute signs you got from big-little week off of the doors of every room on your floor. In case you didn’t realize, all of these things happened. Be prepared to make do with a sense of humor.
Mudd Library is your new go-to study space.
It can be hard at times, with both the ambient volume and the proximity to your friends, to get work done. I quickly learned that running over to Mudd for a few hours can be the best decision for when you need to focus, but don’t have the time for the hike to University Library.
Sound.
Depending on your floor, it can get loud, especially at night. On Thursdays, it usually gets better at around 12 a.m. Unless you want to start falling asleep before the pregames even start, I suggest preparing with ear plugs.
Be nice to the cleaning staff!
These people have one of the hardest jobs on campus. Would you want to do what they do? They have a ton of work in the biggest, loudest, and grossest dorm on campus, so show a little appreciation when they are working hard.
