I have been a dancer my whole life, and I am fortunate enough to be able to continue that passion in college. I am even more fortunate to have been allowed to return to my old dance school and perform in their winter show. Alumni of the school were asked to come back and perform an alumni piece.
We all got back home about a week before the show, so we had that one week to choreograph and clean a dance, as well as determine costumes. So, in two rehearsals totaling five hours, we choreographed a two-minute piece and then cleaned it in about two hours.
There were 12 alumni in the dance, ranging from the graduating class of 2016 to 2019. What was most fantastic about this opportunity was that we all believed that we would never get to dance together again. But here we were granted a chance to work together, breathe together, and dance together again. I loved every minute and am beyond grateful to have been back in the studio where I grew up.
There was talk of having another alumni dance next year, and everyone was more than excited to hear this. Growing up, we all learned that good moments don't last forever and that every moment we share must be cherished. From Sheetz to the studio, from backstage to center stage, we became a family. And those bonds will last a lifetime. We know now that our limited times together are precious, and that just because we graduated does not mean we cannot dance together again.
