“Courting” used to be when a couple went on a date because of a romantic interest. Today, you're lucky if your crush texts you a “hey,” and you might as well pop champagne if he adds in an emoji. But, courting isn’t limited to just one other person. You could be courting many potential partners, and texting many girls/boys at a time.
“Going steady” is a step up in these terms, where you guys are only seeing each other or only “courting” each other. Basically what people today call “a thing” ... I think. I can’t even keep up with the lingo of today’s generation, and I’m 19.
“Keen” is the equivalent of today’s crush. It’s when you are super-curious all the time and constantly check their Twitter to see if they subtweeted about you.
Being “fond” of someone or "fancying” them can be described as a crush today or someone you “have the hots for.”
“Necking” used to be what people called making out, also known as hooking up to today’s generation. Not going to lie, but I just think of two people rubbing their necks together with no intention of trying to kiss.
“Making love” means having sex, banging, tapping, screwing in modern times.
Remember when your parents would talk about how often they would call each other when they were dating? And how long they would sit for hours just going on and on about their lives. When's the last time you actually TALKED to your crush on the phone? Not texting. TALKING! Yeah, I can answer that, never.
