In life, we tend to constantly find ourselves doing things that we didn't particularly sign up for. You may do something you don't want to do because you have a good heart or it is for a friend. You also may do it to better yourself or even to get somewhere in the world. These things just continuously pile up and you may start to feel overwhelmed and forced to juggle at the same time.
When you are finally laying there after hitting rock bottom, you honestly just don't recall how life got to this point. There are many people in the world who experience the hardships of not being able to say no and, as a person of this struggle, I end up involved in way too many things at once. This mistake causes me to be extremely overwhelmed and stressed for obvious reasons. There is no free time that exists in my life and, if it is not one thing I am busy doing, then another comes up last minute and builds the stress level even higher. I seemingly always tend to spread myself too thin and think that I can handle all these things at once, but the truth is that no one can do it all.
If you are a person who has a hard time saying no or thinks you can handle it all, then these simple tips are here, just for you.
1. Say no.
Honestly, the easiest way to keep from overwhelming yourself is to just say no. When you are capable of realizing that you don't need to do something or you shouldn't do something, then you will be much happier with yourself. It may be hard to say no to a friend or to something you truly wanted to do, but, in the end, you'll know that your choice was the right one because you won't be so stressed.
2. Give yourself some "you time."
Even if it is just one hour in your day, enjoy it. Go get a cup of your favorite coffee, watch your favorite show on Netflix, or take a bubble bath and enjoy some wine. There is always a little bit of time that you should enjoy to yourself to relieve some of that extra stress that comes with a busy life.
3. You don't have to do it all.
We are constantly struggling to find the time to do it all and get involved in as much as we possibly can, but, sometimes, there isn't enough time to do everything we want to accomplish. You have to just take a step back and realize that you can't do it all. You don't have to go to that extra audition or sign up for five hard classes in one semester and you certainly don't have to give in to help others, if they wouldn't be willing to help you. Just don't do it.
There will always be times in your life that you wish you just would have said no, but let those realizations be lessons in disguise. Next time, just don't do it. Give yourself more credit for trying so hard to enjoy it all, but, also, give yourself time to enjoy life and its moments of relaxation. For what it's worth, you will find yourself feeling a lot happier by saying no.
