10 Perks Of Having A Mom Who Is Also Your Best Friend
Jessica Thompson

Everyone has a unique relationship with their parents, but the bond between a mother and daughter is one of a kind. Some friends have what others refer to as the "cool mom" (luckily for me that mom is mine) and others have the mom that is like everyone's second mom (again, my mom too!) but mostly everyone's moms are the people in the family you meet and interact with.

If moms have this much of a role in your friend and social groups, imagine how much of a role they have in your life. Some girls realize it sooner than others, but I think every girl at some point recognizes their mom is their best friend, which is pretty awesome! Here are, in my opinion, the top 10 perks of having your mom as your best friend.

1. You always have someone to vent to.

Madyson Thompson

Let's face it, we all need to vent at one point or another. A mom is the perfect person to vent to because, well, they usually know you better than you know yourself (I mean, they did carry you inside them for nine months!).

2. You always have someone to share your gossip with.

Because moms are often intertwined with your friend groups since they are driving you to and from places, or even just welcoming the group into your home, they know the majority of your friends. Having your mom know the people you want to spill information on is key because you don't have to constantly explain or reference who you're talking about, you just say their name.

It is also key because is your mom really going to go spread information about teenagers lives? NO! So here you have the perfect safe space to let out whatever frustration you have toward your friends or whatever secrets your dying to get out.

3. You ALWAYS have a lunch partner

To be completely honest, college is tough! We have to go to class, do assignments, go to work, keep a healthy and fit lifestyle, try to keep a social life, AND still manage to get a good night's sleep. With all of this commotion going on in your life, your friends have a similarly hectic schedule, and they sadly do not always match up.

Usually, it is rarer for them to actually match up, rather than not, so planning to grab a quick bite for lunch becomes almost impossible. Luckily for us, moms always have time for their kids, and you'll find yourself eating meal after meal with her.

4. You have your own personal stylist.

Madyson Thompson

Alright so maybe it's just me, but my mom is my favorite shopping partner! From the time you are born up until you get your independence and want to pick out your own outfits and clothes, your mom is the person in charge of your fashion life, and likely she'll stay somewhat involved in what you wear to certain events for a while longer. Whenever I buy new clothes, I come home and give my mom her very own fashion show, featuring none other than…. ME!

5. You will always have a shoulder to cry on.

Madyson Thompson

Life is hard, everyday something new pops up and you feel defeated, but moms are there to fix that feeling! They are always there when you need them, whether it's to cry over a boy, or the breakup of a boy band (we all go through phases), or even just too much pressure getting to you, your mom listens and makes everything seems better without any judgment.

6. You have a forever Valentine.

Jessica Thompson

We all go through at least one Valentine's Day alone, envying our friends' love lives that for us are non-existent, but moms never fall short of getting you your favorite chocolate bar for the day. I think it's safe to say you are never fully alone though because your mom will never turn down being your valentine.

7. You have someone who is literally you in another person's body.

Madyson Thompson

Sure some people are polar opposites of their parents, but there are a lot of traits that we each get that don't fall far from the tree. Whether it's different physical appearances, or a habit, or skill, most of us have at least one characteristic that we get from our mom. This makes it easier to butt heads sometimes, but overall it's great because you know where these traits can lead you.

8. You have two wardrobes!

Jessica Thompson

If your mom has a good style and is close to your size, you literally get the perks of two wardrobes. Have an event but tired of all of your own clothes, and don't have the money to buy a new outfit? Your moms closest is often just a hallway away (or maybe a quick drive) and it has an entirely new selection of clothing to choose from.

9. You have an automatic hype man, who won't lie to you (well, hype woman).

Madyson Thompson

Your mom will always be your number one supporter and hype you up in most aspects. Forget sending selfies in your group chat to see which one you should post, you have your mom to quickly tell you the truth about the pictures, and tell you how pretty you look in certain ones.

Play a sport? Your moms automatically your biggest fan, even if you are awful at it, she'll still be there to cheer you on. Having a friend pipe you up in your comments produces a feeling of satisfaction, but with your mom, you get that satisfaction immediately and in person when she tells you how proud of you she is, or how great you are.

10. You truly do have that forever friendship.

Madyson Thompson

You will gain and lose many friends over the course of your life, but the one friend that stays no matter what is your mom. She provides you with life, laughs, memories, love, and the greatest friendship of all. Your mom is there for you through the good and bad, and proves to be the best friend you could have ever asked for!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
