A year ago, I was where I am right now and yet I wasn’t. A year ago, I was a rising senior, scared of the future and about to let go of someone I wanted so badly to hold onto. A year ago, I was waiting for life to happen to me. A year ago, I was different and yet I was exactly the same.
A year in the life of anyone can be full of new adventures, new love and exciting stories. For others, it is stagnant, nothing new, nothing of note. Either way, we change. In fact, we change every day just by living and going about our lives. We are constantly evolving into a new version of ourselves, regardless of what is happening around or to us.
You are different right now at this moment than you were yesterday. You may not feel like it, but you are one step closer to your goal. You are one day closer to getting that thing you so desperately want. You are growing every single day, and for that, you should be proud of yourself.
Don’t ever feel as though your life is boring. Some people move through long seasons in which nothing remarkable happens to them, but this doesn’t mean in the next season something won’t come along. Time is irrelevant in this life. A year is just a few moments in the span of a life. A million things can change or only one thing can change.
We are so worried about keeping up with the people around us that we forget to embrace our own little changes. We figure since we don’t have a new job, a new car or a new boyfriend that we are somehow lagging behind others. In reality, we have new things happening to us every day, we just have to recognize and embrace it.
Don’t ever forget that the next year could be the most exciting year of your life or that the most exciting year of your life is yet to come. So much can happen in a year, whether it be good or bad.
Look towards the future with hope; this coming year holds so many possibilities.
