Being shy is both a blessing and a curse. More times than one, it's a curse. Here's 16 realities that shy people have to face.
1. People tend to think you are stuck-up.
Silently judging and being snobby are not always the same thing.
2. People tend to think you are strange.
Your own parents sometimes will think that there is something wrong with you. You just don't feel the need to communicate with people.
3. You dread group projects with anyone besides your friends.
Being forced into a project with people you didn't talk to was like skydiving with no parachute; terrible. You more than likely had the best ideas in the group, but were too modest to voice them.
4. People act shocked when you speak.
Yes. I can talk. I choose not to. It's more of a comfort thing.
5. People are amazed by how "normal" you are with your friends.
I talk when I feel comfortable. My usual silence evaporates when I'm with my friends. Then I never shut up.
6. You are usually timid, too.
You sometimes suffer from confidence issues, which are a huge part of why you are quiet. You feel like it's easier to be silent rather than "mess up" in a situation. It's a constant battle with yourself. You always get mad at yourself for not saying what you wanted to say.
7. You don't know the best way(s) to talk to your crush.
You don't want to seem needy or possessive. You are terrified of saying the wrong thing. Even sending basic texts can stress you out. "They answered, how long should I text back? Do they want to talk?" It's hard to communicate how you really feel about someone when you're shy. The timidness makes you second guess every single little thing.
8. It is sometimes easier to communicate with new people over social media outlets.
Sometimes, it is easier to communicate with new people over the web rather than in person at first. It gives you a basic idea on how to communicate with them. It also relieves a massive amount of stress when meeting them.
9. You purposely try to ignore eye contact with people you kind of know.
You know them, but don't feel confident enough to talk to them sometimes.
10. Going to parties can give you anxiety.
Going out on Fridays can get stressful. You love being out with your friends, but not knowing everyone can make you feel uncomfortable. Luckily, it's easy to make friends with drunk people.
11. Making small talk with strangers can be rough.
Stranger: "Hello."
Me: "Hi. My favorite color is yellow and I like manatees. Want to exchange Instagrams?"
12. Small talk with basic things like your new hair stylist can be rough, too.
You can make it though this haircut. It will get better each time you go.
13. People will always think that you are sad.
Thanks for caring, but I'm used to it. Nothing is wrong, I just don't feel like talking all the time.
14. You always have the most clever remarks at the best possible times.
Everyone thinks you should be a comedian! My sarcastic remark was meant to be mean, not funny. Thanks for the compliment.
15. You sometimes pretend to be on your phone to feel comfortable.
Being on your phone makes you look like a busy person. There's no way people will bother you!
16. The right people will break you out of your shell.
Once you feel comfortable around people, your shyness totally disappears. When you are with them, you are always talking. Being around the right people helps you meet new people and feel more confident.
